Sample / Recommended Three Season Backpacking List
The following would be my recommendation for a comfort oriented, light weight style, with good price/performance ratio list designed for 3 season use in the sierras.
This is pretty close to what  I helped a friend put together. Many items can be found for less money if you wait patiently for off season sales
See http://www.verber.com/mark/outdoors/gear/  for more detailed explanation of selections
Item selection is largely driven by the parameters at the top of this sheet (open in excel).  Many items are formula driven
Items which have a  "light green" background are options which I sometimes select to over-rule default choices.
